The Daoist Outlook・054

Sep 05, 2025

Full Monkey Moon

This coming week brings us Teacher Appreciation Day - September 10th. This is a legitimate holiday in China. Like a Mother's or Father's day, but so much more special. Seriously! Sure, your parents give you life and all your basic social/survival skills, but it's up to your teachers to guide you towards your innate potential - and that's special.

As for the poetry of the moment, think of all the teachers that have graced your path. Think of the ones that may have shaped your worldview or given your life more meaning and purpose. Some teachers lead by example and others demonstrate by way of their mistakes. If you don't have any teachers that stand out in your mind, then perhaps that's a lesson within itself?
To make this make sense, think about all you've learned. Think about how you learn, why you learn, and what you do with your learning. If knowledge is power, then good teachers are priceless. Assuming your teachers have helped you grow - this is the week to thank them.

✧ Celebrate your Shifu ✧
Practice: If you have a jewel, polish it.
Repeat: Make as many mistakes as you can.
Reflect: Don't ask questions practice can answer.
Apply: Put the principles to work. Test everything.
Share: Invest in legacy, teach other teachers.

Forever Student

Waxing Water Snake    There was once a Snake caught in a fire. A brave man saved the Snake by pulling it from the blaze, but in the process, the Snake bit the man and killed him with poison. Perhaps we could fault the Snake, but it's only natural for it to bite. Perhaps we could fault the brave man, but he only wanted to help.     As for the poetry of the moment, be careful! If you want to s...

Yin Water Snake Moon    Wow, Snake moon - the first moon of Summer! We often talk about how a Snake is really just the tail of a Dragon, but Snakes also have a personality of their own. On good days, they're wise, intuitive, attentive, intelligent, and caring. On bad days, however, they could be down right mean, manic, and manipulative - their misconduct is literally biblical. Care for an app...

Dragon Moon Wanes    Careful now, don't let the Dragon fool you. Remember at the beginning of the moon when we told you that the Dragon was really, really big? Well, this is where it shows up - you thought the Dragon was done, but NOPE! We still have another moon to go! You thought that was a Snake moon coming next? Better look again... that's not a snake - that's the Dragon's tail!    As fo...
