Yin Rooster Moon Rises

Roosters have great energy for finishing. Imagine the floor, covered in grit, rocks, and pebbles - a chicken has no problem picking out a little insect or a tiny seed. Right? Use this energy to cross those T's and dot those I's. In the conversation of closing up, no other archetype gets it right like the Rooster.

As for the poetry of the moment, wrap it up. Why keep pushing forward? If you feel tired, listen in - your body is wise. Forcing a finish gets sloppy, and then you end up having to do it all over again - which only wastes more time in the long run. It would be wise to slow down and tie up all your loose ends with precision before you even think of moving on to anything else.
To make this make sense, get it done. There's no sense in dragging things into the Winter moons - wrap it up. The idea is simple, Winter is no different than the night - you should be sleeping. It's that easy. So, if there's any gas left in your tank, perhaps you should use it to get home and go to bed.

Slow Down: What's the rush?
Go Straight Home:
Behave yourself
Get It Done:
Be deliberate and effective
Sleep Tight:
Treat rest like a ritual
That's It:
Simple isn't easy

✧ Shifu Says ✧

Last week, a local fraction of our community came together for a special Teacher Appreciation Day picnic in the San Francisco Presidio Tunnel Tops. The event was drafted, organized and executed by our esteemed inheritor, Mary Constance-Parks, who took the initiative to do everything by herself.

Considering that the event was specifically for our Free Qigong Crew that gathers online over Zoom, it was the first time many of them had ever met! It was a real treat. I started the event by serving everyone our thermos brew tea. From there, we shared a group Pai Da practice to work up our appetites before we all sat down for a lovely potluck lunch with more tea to wash the food down. The day was packed! We really put the "Fun" in "Function!"
To make the event extra special, my wife and I brought our newborn to the party. He turned two months that day, and it was his first community debut! He was the highlight of the afternoon - everyone was overjoyed to greet the baby. To close, we wrapped it all up with an award ceremony to honor a few of our prominent contributors. We gave out engraved plaques and full cakes of aged pu'erh tea. In all, it was a warm and memorable day.
Perhaps the event was for me, the teacher, but the reality is that I am only one part of the equation. Great teachers are made by great students - one cannot exist without the other. In that light, while you guys appreciate me, I appreciate you right back in return. Thank you for making our community so amazing. I couldn't have done it without YOU!

Parent = Fate / Teacher = Choice / Student = Forever

Pai Da DONE

For the past two months, our community has been exploring Pai Da Gong (拍打功) together in our Monday & Friday training sessions. We've slapped, tapped, stretched, experimented with rhythms, and gradually developed a practice that can be taken anywhere. Now the season is changing, and so is our curriculum. Soon, we'll be moving into the Dragon Gate Pilgrimage Set, which means no more Pai Da until next Summer!

For those who want to keep going, we've put the entire system together in the new Pai Da Gong - online training course. The curriculum exceeds what we could cover in our free sessions, complete with solo training, partnered exercises, polyrhythmic patterns, specialized stretches, drills, lectures, and lifestyle recommendations designed to help you understand not only how to practice Pai Da, but how to make it a part of your personal journey.
This is especially for those of you who have been practicing with us all Summer long. You've already built the foundation - don't let two months of momentum lapse because the curriculum is changing. With the course, you can continue practicing at your own pace, revisit the material whenever you need it, and begin exploring the deeper layers we couldn't cover in class.
Now, just for our subscribers, you get early bird access to the trade mark course our community is famous for. Use promo code SFCLC to lock in your discount today - this deal won't last forever!

Yin Fire Rooster Moon    Back up Monkey King, it's Rooster time. If there's anything that can keep a Fire Monkey in check, it has to be his successor, the incredible Yin Fire Hen. This Kentucky Fried archetype is hot headed, aggressive, and strapped with a carbon-steel-beak and cast-iron-claws. Watch out - she will peck you.    As for the poetry of the moment, get out of the way. You wouldn'...
The Daoist Outlook・106
Monkey Moon Wanes    The "Monkey Mind" is a prominent concept in most every ancient spiritual system. Be it Hindu, Buddhist, Daoist, or beyond, conquering the Monkey in our minds is a nobel spiritual feat. It speaks to the state of one's mind being chaotic and restless - to "Tame the Monkey" in this sense, simply means to hold a single minded focus without any distracting thoughts. Not easy. ...
The Daoist Outlook・105
Full Fire Monkey Moon     Among the Five Primary Phases, Fire is the most aggressive. It relates to that time in our lives when we feel like we're invincible and think we know it all. Collapse that phase on top of a primate archetype and you end up with one violently volatile fur ball - super cute, and yet, super dangerous.      As for the poetry of the moment, get out of the kitchen. We've ...
