The Daoist Outlook・023

Jan 31, 2025

It's Tiger Time!

And we're off! The Yang Earth Tiger has kick started a fresh new year for us to navigate! Earth Tigers are mean, massive, and mighty. Try to imagine a fully grown apex predator and all the power it can pack in a single pounce. This beast could literally eat it's fill of whatever it wants and then just nap in the middle of the valley for weeks on end without a care in the world.

The tiger does have a weakness though, two of them in fact. One is that it doesn't have the endurance for a long chase. Sure, it can kill in one bite, but it also needs to because it lacks the stamina necessary for a big battle.
The second flaw is found in its defenses - or in this instance, lack thereof. What's strange is that the tiger has no real sense of self defense because it never really has to defend itself. In that light, the smallest of splinters could prick it's paw and take our tiger out completely. It could be all the worse for bigger injuries, so it's important to remain cautious and alert. This month, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

✧ How to Crouch ✧

Reel it In: Keep your back to a wall and observe the whole space.
Hide in the Tall Grass: Blend in with your surroundings. Be discreet.
Stay Downwind: Try not to draw attention to yourself. Don't be loud.
Rear Back: Coil up those springs. Be ready to pounce in an instant.

One Bite, One Kill

Fire Pig Moon Wanes    Here we are at the curly-tail end of our Yin Fire Pig Moon. The solstice is nearly upon us and we're quickly encroaching upon the deepest pit of Yin for the year - but don't worry - it'll fly right by and should be over before it even begins. Once this phase comes to pass, Yang will be on the rise yet again... and so the world goes - as it always has/always will.    As...

A Full Fire Pig Moon    Last week we leaned in on the internal transformative power of a pig, but did you know that it has an external transformative capacity too? It's true! If you plucked a feral boar from the wild - tusks, hair, and all - and threw it in a pen, within 3-6 mo. it'd look no different from all the other porky pigs. In the same way, if you take an heirloom, blue ribbon pigle...

The Waxing Fire Pig    Did you know that pigs could live under an outhouse and thrive? They can literally eat nothing but food scraps and feces and still be perfectly content. The other animal that could do that is the goat; but if a goat eats garbage, it will taste like garbage - both the meat and the milk. Not a pig though. It has the ability to metabolize the mess and still be delicious....
