Mid Autumn Warm Up

Here in the states, our two biggest holidays are Christmas and Thanksgiving, but they pretty much run back to back. In China, their two biggest holidays are the Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, and Mid Autumn Festival, which celebrates the fall season. Essentially one is yin and the other is yang.

Legend has it, a heavenly being came to visit our realm, but preferred to be with the animals because the humans were too cunning. One day, three furry friends were sent to fetch food for the diety, namely the monkey, the fox, and the rabbit. Both the monkey and fox found food, but the rabbit did not, so it offered its own body up as a meal instead. The diety, moved by the gesture, granted the rabbit eternal life, and placed it's image on the moon for the whole world to see.
It's a cute story that invites us to embrace yin as winter draws near - hense the reverence towards the autumn moon. How do you embrace the yin of fall?

✧ Mid Autumn Checklist ✧

- Wrap it Up: Put the finishing touches on those big projects.
- Take Breaks: Don't quit, just pace yourself and allow for rest.
- Eat Hearty: Less salads and smoothies, more soups and stews.
- Get Together: Family and friends are the forgotten food group.

Fire Pig Moon Wanes    Here we are at the curly-tail end of our Yin Fire Pig Moon. The solstice is nearly upon us and we're quickly encroaching upon the deepest pit of Yin for the year - but don't worry - it'll fly right by and should be over before it even begins. Once this phase comes to pass, Yang will be on the rise yet again... and so the world goes - as it always has/always will.    As...

A Full Fire Pig Moon    Last week we leaned in on the internal transformative power of a pig, but did you know that it has an external transformative capacity too? It's true! If you plucked a feral boar from the wild - tusks, hair, and all - and threw it in a pen, within 3-6 mo. it'd look no different from all the other porky pigs. In the same way, if you take an heirloom, blue ribbon pigle...

The Waxing Fire Pig    Did you know that pigs could live under an outhouse and thrive? They can literally eat nothing but food scraps and feces and still be perfectly content. The other animal that could do that is the goat; but if a goat eats garbage, it will taste like garbage - both the meat and the milk. Not a pig though. It has the ability to metabolize the mess and still be delicious....
